Batterer's Intervention Facilitator Training

 This Batterer's Intervention Facilitator Training is designed for professionals seeking competency in Batterer Intervention Facilitator Training and will earn  21 hours for facilitator training on the power and control model of intervention.  


Florida Statute 741 and CHAPTER 65H-2 BATTERER INTERVENTION PROGRAM CERTIFICATION MINIMUM STANDARDS governs the requirements for batterers’ intervention programs.  In compliance with Florida Statute 741 this program is based on a psycho-educational model that addresses tactics of power and control by one person over another.


Students must review the course material and pass the online quiz with a minimum of 70% correct.  


Course Objectives

  •  To learn Florida's statutory requirements for batterer's intervention programs (BIP).
  • To understand the origin of BIPs and the different theories behind the causes of domestic violence.
  • To learn the definition of domestic violence according to Florida law.
  • To understand the Power & Control Model and how perpetrators use tactics of power and control to abuse their victims.
  • To learn characteristics of egalitarian relationships which serve as the basis of the 8-themed structure of the Deluth Model of BIP.
  • To become aware of the magnitude of the problem domestic violence poses in our society by reviewing state and national statistics of the impact of domestic violence.
  • To learn the 8-themed structure of the Deluth Model of BIP, and how to teach perpetrators how to end tactics of abuse by learning how to foster characteristics of egalitarian relationships.
  • To learn how to teach specific cognitive-behavioral skills to perpetrators to help them foster characteristics of egalitarian relationships.
  • To learn about the relationship between substance abuse and domestic violence.
  • To learn about the effects domestic violence has on children.
  • To learn how societal perception of gender roles influences domestic violence.
  • To learn how special populations are impacted by domestic violence.
  • To help perpetrators explore ways to improve their support systems.
  • To introduce the various laws related to domestic violence.

About the author

 Shayna Rayman is a Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Nationally Certified Counselor.  Ms. Rayman is the founder of Dynamic Outpatient Therapeutic Services, LLC and BIP Broward, both located in Broward County, Florida. 


She received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Miami, her M.S. in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University, and her J.D. in Law from Nova Southeastern Law School.


Before Ms. Rayman opened her own private mental health practice, she practiced law representing families whose children had been removed by the Department of Children and Families due to allegations of abuse, abandonment or neglect.  She represented both parents and children who struggled with mental health issues, addiction, and/or abuse, in addition to social and legal challenges.


It was during this time that her passion for psychology was reignited and she decided to go back to school to earn her Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling at Nova Southeastern University.


As a mental health practitioner, Ms. Rayman has over eight years experience providing crisis intervention, individual, couples, family, and group counseling to adults and children. She has treated both adult and child victims of sexual assault/abuse, and has helped clients suffering from a variety of symptoms including post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, anger, lack of self-esteem, and suicidal thoughts.


Ms. Rayman also has experience counseling children involved in Diversion Programs through the Juvenile Justice System and in the Alternate to External Suspension Programs through the Broward County Schools. 


She provided children enrolled in such programs with anger management counseling, assertiveness training, positive coping and problem- solving skills, skills to improve self-esteem, crisis intervention, and suicide prevention counseling. In addition, Ms. Rayman also worked closely with the children’s families providing group parenting training and family counseling.


Ms. Rayman continues to work closely with community-based agencies providing services to children and families involved in the Dependency Court system, teaching various skills such as learning to cope with difficult and traumatic circumstances, managing anger, communicating effectively, expressing feelings, taking care of self, solving problems, and learning how to have meaningful relationships. 


Ms. Rayman also works closely with the children’s families, schools, doctors, lawyers, guardian ad litems, and caseworkers to ensure continuity of care.
